Why Stage Lighting Makes or Breaks Dance Photos

How stage lighting affects concert photography, and what studios can do to get better results.

Why Stage Lighting Makes or Breaks Dance Photos, Syrenn Studios

Light is everything

On stage, the lighting designer is effectively choosing the look of every photo. Strong front light gives clear faces. Heavy coloured washes or haze create mood but can hide detail.

Talk to your lighting tech

If you want clear photos of faces, ask for some front light on key routines. Even a small amount makes a big difference.

Avoid flash

Flash distracts dancers and flattens stage lighting. A good stage photographer works with the available light instead.
