What to Wear for a Dance Photoshoot
Practical outfit advice for dancers booking a portfolio or promotional photoshoot.

Show your lines
Fitted clothing lets the camera see your shape and technique. Leotards, fitted crop tops and tights work well for ballet and contemporary. Looser streetwear suits hip hop, but choose pieces that still show movement.
Colour
Solid colours photograph better than busy patterns. Choose colours that contrast with the background, and bring a second option in case the location changes.
Shoes and details
Bring every type of shoe you might use: pointe shoes, flats, sneakers or heels. Check for loose threads, tidy hair, and remove anything you'd have to edit out later, like hair ties on wrists.
Bring layers
Bring a warm layer between shots. Warm muscles look better, move better and are less likely to get injured.
